Should I see a Chiropractor during my Pregnancy?
Many women don’t know but chiropractic care can relieve some of the pain and pressure associated with pregnancy. Chiropractors are trained to adjust pregnant women and use special techniques and tables to help reduce unneeded pressure on the abdomen. Some of the reasons you might want to see a chiropractor for prenatal care are changes in the mother’s posture, pelvic discomfort, a baby in breech or posterior positions, and pinched nerves.
It is natural for a change in posture to occur during pregnancy. This can cause misalignment of the entire spine and receiving regular adjustments can help correct and balance the body. Pelvic balance, especially during pregnancy, is extremely important because it allows for maximum room for the developing baby and can make it that much easier for baby to get in the best position possible for delivery.
Many chiropractors have helped babies in a breech or posterior position turn naturally, again, aiding in making more room in the womb for natural movement. When a baby is situated in a good position inside the womb, the ease of labor increases and there is also a reduction of birthing complications. Sciatica, or a pinched nerve in the lower back, is a very common complaint from pregnant mothers. Getting specific adjustments, sometimes termed the Webster Technique, can help reduce pressure on the nerves and will help the body balance out as much as possible.
According to AmericanPregnancy.org, some of the benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy can include reduction of nausea symptoms, potential prevention of a cesarean delivery, relief from back and neck pain, and an overall healthier pregnancy.
